Description
This image is of the back of the Mission San Jose Church in San Antonio, Texas. Three crosses, arches, and roses add interest to the scene. Built in 1720, it is the largest and best known of the Texas missions. The size of the mission complex earned it the title "Queen of the Missions." The beautiful church building is known for its unique architecture. The mission residents learned to use firearms to fend off Comanche and Apache raids. Their skill, plus massive stone walls, discouraged enemy attacks. Mission San Jose is part of the San Antonio Missions National Historic Park.
