Artist's Description
DANCE OF THE QUAIL by PRISCILLA BURGERS
A pair of Gambel's quail appear to be dancing in the early morning sunlight. The Gambel's quail is a small ground-dwelling bird in the New World quail family. It inhabits the desert regions of southwestern United States also New Mexico-border Chihuahua and the Colorado River region of Baja California. The Gambel's quail is named in honor of William Gambel, a 19th-century naturalist and explorer of the Southwestern United States. They are easily recognized by their top knots and scaly plumage on their undersides. Gambel's quail have bluish-gray plumage on much of their bodies, and males have copper feathers on the top of their heads, black faces, and white stripes above their eyes. These birds have relatively short, rounded wings and long, featherless legs. Their diet consists primarily of plant matter and seeds. These quail were photographed in the high desert of Cottonwood, Arizona.

About Priscilla Burgers
I was born and raised in the Metropolitan New York City area of New Jersey but have lived in Arizona for forty years. After retiring from high school counseling and teaching, I discovered the joy of photography and digital art. Capturing the beauty of God's creation with landscape photography was my first passion. I thank God for his creations and that I am fortunate enough to see and capture a part of them with my camera. I have also come to enjoy many other facets of photography, such as wildlife, American Western, farm, church, and ghost town photography. I take great pleasure in traveling and...
