Description
This is an image of the church at Mission San Juan in San Antonio, Texas, framed by a tree. The current church at Mission San Juan was built between 1786 and 1824. This was the third church to be constructed at the mission. The foundations of the two older churches are still visible. The interior contains a nave, altar and sacristy. The sacristy is separated from the rest of the church by a small, wooden partition wall. The mission's fertile farmland and pastures made it a regional supplier of produce, sheep, and cattle. The missions of San Antonio were not only self sufficient, but they supported settlements and the nearby presidio (fort). Mission San Juan is part of the San Antonio Missions National Historical Park.
