Description
MOUNT EVANS MOUNTAIN GOAT by PRISCILLA BURGERS
A mountain goat is right at home near the rocky edge of alpine Mount Evans, near Idaho Springs, Colorado. The road to Mount Evans is the highest paved road in North America. Drive from 8,700 feet at Idaho Springs where you turn off Interstate 70 to 14,240 feet at the summit and you travel through three life zones, passing ancient bristlecone pines and lakes to a land above timberline. It can be 50 degrees cooler at the top of Mount Evans. Mountain goats, bighorn sheep, and marmots are frequently seen near the summit. The views of surrounding mountains are breathtaking.
Both billy (male) and nanny (female) mountain goats have beards, short tails, and long black horns, which contain yearly growth rings. They are protected from the elements by their woolly white double coats. The mountain goat's feet are suited for climbing steep, rocky slopes with pitches exceeding 60 degrees, with inner pads that provide traction and cloven hooves that can spread apart. The tips of their feet have sharp dewclaws that keep them from slipping.
The Fine Art America logo will not appear on your finished product.
