Description
RUBY ARIZONA SCHOOLHOUSE by PRISCILLA BURGERS
Ruby, Arizona was a highly productive mining community in southern Arizona, about four miles from the Mexican border. The mine yielded about ten million dollars in 1920's to 1930's dollars from lead, gold, silver, and tungsten. When the mine closed, miners left with most of the houses that were not adobe. A few remaining buildings, such as this adobe schoolhouse, are being restored. This school, open until 1951, served 150 students in grades one through eight.

Starkly beautiful, Priscilla. Was this just open to walk in or did you get permission. I always wonder about things like that when I run across an old place and am tempted to enter. Really like the high contrast in this image with the light hitting the chair. L/F

Thank you very much, Scott. The property has a caretaker. An entry fee is used to restore some buildings, such as this one, and stabilize others.
