Description
SINGING MEADOWLARK by PRISCILLA BURGERS
Meadowlarks (Sturnella neglecta) are often more easily heard than seen, as was the case with this meadowlark. Their songs have a buoyant, flutelike melody. Look and listen for these ground feeders in grasslands, meadows, pastures, and along marsh edges where flocks feed on seeds and insects. I photographed this member of the blackbird family at Maxwell National Wildlife Refuge at Maxwell, New Mexico. I gave this image a painterly effect.
