Description
A marmot, common in the highest mountains of the world, seems to be smelling the alpine flowers. He is more likely interested in eating the flowers, one of his sources of food. Marmots typically live in burrows, often within rockpiles, and hibernate there through the winter. Most marmots are highly social and use loud whistles to communicate with one another, especially when alarmed. This photo was taken near the summit of 14,265 foot Mt. Evans, near Idaho Springs, Colorado.
