SHARING A MONUMENT VALLEY SUNRISE by PRISCILLA BURGERS
A couple speechlessly shares the beauty of a sunrise at Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park. Standing atop one of the rocks Ansel Adams made famous in his Monument Valley images, the couple views the sun rising behind the iconic Mittens formations. Monument Valley (Navajo: Tse Biiʼ Ndzisgaii, meaning valley of the rocks) is a region of the Colorado Plateau characterized by a cluster of vast sandstone buttes, the largest reaching 1,000 ft above the valley floor. It is located on the Arizona-Utah state line near the Four Corners area. The valley lies within the range of the Navajo Nation Reservation.. Monument Valley has been featured in many forms of media since the 1930's. I was born and raised in the Metropolitan New York City area of New Jersey but have lived in Arizona for forty years. After retiring from high school counseling and teaching, I discovered the joy of photography and digital art. Although I strive to get the shot right in the camera, I enjoy the artistic and creative aspects of working with image editing programs. Capturing the beauty of God's creation with landscape photography was my first passion. I thank God for his creations and that I am fortunate enough to see and capture a part of them with my camera.
