For a birds-eye view of Sedona, Arizona, take a Jeep up Schnebly Hill Road. This extremely rocky, rutted dirt road climbs up the Mogollon Rim, rewarding the adventurous with sweeping red rock vistas. You will likely recognize many of the views, which have been featured in dozens of movies and commercials filmed along this road. Cowpie formation, seen here, was featured in an automobile commercial when an automobile was lowered by helicopter onto the formation. A century plant, also known as Agave americana, maguey, or American aloe, can be seen in the foreground. Although it is called the century plant, it typically lives only 10 to 30 years. Near the end of its life, the plant sends up a tall, branched stalk, laden with yellow blossoms, that may reach a total height of up to 25 to 30 feet tall.
