FORD FEVER by PRISCILLA BURGERS
A rusty 1948 Ford, vintage gas pump, and old tires lie beneath a vintage Firestone sign at Hackberry, Arizona. The image was enhanced with virtual painting. A former mining town, Hackberry takes its name from the hackberry tree common to the area. Various service stations in the town served U.S. Route 66 travelers. All were shut down after Interstate 40 in Arizona bypassed the town. Interstate 40's 69-mile route between Kingman and Seligman diverges widely from the old 82-mile Highway 66 segment between these points, leaving Hackberry stranded sixteen miles from the new highway. The Northside Grocery, established in 1934, and its Conoco station were among the last to close, In 1978. Hackberry became a ghost town. In 1992, itinerant artist Bob Waldmire re-opened the Hackberry General Store as a Route 66 tourism information post and souvenir shop on the former Northside Grocery site. I was born and raised in the Metropolitan New York City area of New Jersey but have lived in Arizona for forty years. After retiring from high school counseling and teaching, I discovered the joy of photography and digital art. Capturing the beauty of God's creation with landscape photography was my first passion. I thank God for his creations and that I am fortunate enough to see and capture a part of them with my camera. I have also come to enjoy many other facets of photography, such as wildlife, American Western, farm, church, and ghost town photography. I take great pleasure in traveling and...

Excellent composition. Where is the best part of Route 66 for photos?
Priscilla Burgers replied:
Thank you, Doug. I've been on Route 66 from eastern California to Oklahoma. There are so many good locations, I really cant pick just one. In Arizona, I really like Hackberry, Winslow, Jackrabbit, and Joseph City. I have a Route 66 gallery with other images.
