Image is a digital painting of the Old Brick Mill on Silver Creek in Lindale, Georgia. Several ducks are swimming in the creek as it reflects the mill. The Old Brick Mill is also known as Barnett's Mill, Jones Mill, Hoss' Mill, Silver Creek Mill, and Folly Mill. It has a large metal wheel which no longer turns; water was carried to it in a race from the high ground. The mill was erected in 1832 by slave labor with bricks made with clay dug near the site. Larkin Barnett was the first owner. In 1840 a bag of flour processed in the mill was sent to the World's Fair in Paris where it won first prize. It was damaged by pillaging Northern troops during the Civil War and rebuilt by the owner, Capt. Jacob H. Hoss. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1993. More recently, it has been known as Jones' mill and has been a meeting place for Boy Scouts. I was born and raised in the Metropolitan New York City area of New Jersey but have lived in Arizona for forty years. After retiring from high school counseling and teaching, I discovered the joy of photography and digital art. Although I strive to get the shot right in the camera, I enjoy the artistic and creative aspects of working with image editing programs.
