This antique sign,advertising that the gas price is 31.9 cents today and Nehi is sold here, hangs outside the entrance to Classical Gas Museum in Embudo, New Mexico.

Classical Gas is a museum dedicated to the great American filling station. Museum owner and curator Johnnie Meier, a retired Los Alamos science and technology geek, is an avid collector of old and oily artifacts that might have otherwise wound up in a landfill. He sits on the editorial boards of "American Road" and "Route 66" magazines and also writes freelance pieces for several hot rod publications. Within the Classical Gas collection are colorful oil cans, vintage signs, gas pumps and crowns and globes that capped the pumps, old photos and postcards of gas stations, old license plates, ashtrays set into miniature tires, and toy cars, trucks and model gas stations. I was born and raised in the Metropolitan New York City area of New Jersey but have lived in Arizona for forty years.
