Description
PRAIRIE DOG DINNER by PRISCILLA BURGERS
A white-tailed prairie dog enjoys a meal of lush greens at Arapaho National Wildlife Refuge at Walden, Colorado. Arapaho National Wildlife Refuge supports diverse wildlife habitats, including sagebrush steppe uplands, grassland meadows, willow riparian areas, and wetlands. This 23,464-acre Refuge was established in 1967 primarily to provide suitable nesting and rearing habitat for migratory birds. Badgers and white-tailed prairie dogs coexist as in the sagebrush uplands. The sagebrush may be sparse in these areas due to the burrowing lifestyle and the ground disturbance of these animals.
