SCENIC MAXWELL NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE by PRISCILLA BURGERS
Maxwell National Wildlife Refuge, in northern New Mexico, is a great place to go to if you like to view wildlife. Deer, wild turkeys, bald eagles, a variety of hawks, herons, sandhill cranes, grebes, meadowlarks and other songbirds, long-billed curlews, cormorants, Canadian geese, porcupines, prairie dogs, and burrowing owls are some of the animals we have seen and photographed there. This October view of Maxwell NWR is especially striking with autumn color in the grasses and trees and snow-capped Sangre de Cristo Range in the background.
