THE KITCHEN WINDOW by PRISCILLA BURGERS
This window looks like many kitchen windows in old historic mining towns in the Colorado mountains. This iconic building in Silver Plume, Colorado, began its life in 1890 as a grain and feed store but served as a bakery for most of the last century. When I photographed this building, it was Sopp & Truscott Bakery, the old-fashioned Silver Plume bakery where the airy bread and rickety glass cupboards conjured up images of women in petticoats and men working the mines. Stepping into this building was like stepping back in time. After hours, a box on the porch contained unsold bakery items where hungry patrons could help themselves and pay on the honor system. In 2012, after five years as the scrumptious Sopp & Truscott Bakery, the building was turned into Dram Apathecary. After retiring from high school counseling and teaching, I discovered the joy of photography and digital art.
