JEROME ARIZONA - A MINING GHOST TOWN ON A HILL by PRISCILLA BURGERS
A visit to Jerome, Arizona is a delight for photographers, history buffs and shoppers. Historic buildings in this quirky town are in various states of repair and disrepair. On the far left is Lawrence Memorial Hall, popularly known as Spook Hall. This building was the Old J.C. Penney building. Mr. Lawrence was a major contributor to the founding of the Jerome Historical Society and the building is dedicated in his honor. The old concrete shell of a building behind Spook Hall was a market in the past. More recently, it has been a glass blower's studio. Snow-capped San Francisco Peaks can be seen in the background between the two buildings. The building in the foreground is currently The Merchants Gathering gallery and studio of painter, Cody DeLong. Built in 1905, the building was originally the area Studebaker and Mamon dealership. I was born and raised in the Metropolitan New York City area of New Jersey but have lived in Arizona for forty years. After retiring from high school counseling and teaching, I discovered the joy of photography and digital art. Although I strive to get the shot right in the camera, I enjoy the artistic and creative aspects of working with image editing programs.
