Description
A Native American is competing in the 34th Annual World Championship Hoop Dance
Contest at the Heard Museum in Phoenix Arizona. He is expertly manipulating several hoops with his limbs and body. Over 100 contestants from all over North America competed on this competition. Their dances exhibited not only their skills but also their passion. Their elaborate regalia were representative of their native tribes. This event is more than a competition, it’s an avenue for cultural preservation, spotlighting the history of hoop dancing in indigenous communities. I attended both days of the competition and plan to return next year. Seeing their dances and hearing their drums have given me a deeper appreciation for the Native American culture. I added painterly effects to this image.
